Virtual Credit Card Numbers
In the modern area, it's getting more and more popular to have disposable items (save recently as environmentalists have been working to curb this phenomenon). However, disposable credit card numbers, more commonly referred to as "virtual credit card numbers" are still growing in popularity and have no effect on the environment. However, it's good to make sure you understand what these temporary credit card numbers have to offer, and what they aren't good for. In fact, in many cases, it's much easier just to go ahead and use a regular credit card if it's available.
The main advantage to the virtual credit card system is the ability to pay online without compromising your identity. If you have a PayPal account, you can use the PayPal plugin to generate a temporary credit card number for that one purchase, and it's totally free. Many other credit suppliers also offer virtual credit card numbers, usually for a small fee.
If you're buying physical items that you will have to pick up yourself rather than have them shipped to you, it's better to use a real credit card In many cases, such as online movie tickets, you have to show your credit card whenever you come to pick up your tickets. With a virtual credit card number, you have no actual card to prove that you're the one who made the purchase. Also, virtual credit cards expire after a short period of time, usually less than one month. Any sort of subscription or recurring monthly payment will not work on a temporary credit card
If you are careful and only use trusted sites, you can probably be just fine using your pre-existing credit card Unless you are really uncomfortable using your physical credit card to make a certain purchase, there are no other real benefits to using a temporary credit card number. It may sound nice in theory, but in many ways, it's a lot harder to use than a regular credit card.
